At the end of November, after having the position vacant for several months, ConeXión Mosaico hired a Facilitator to take over the ACJU Deportivo (sports) project. In December the Facilitator started contacting the youth who had been involved in the project before, and those youth who knew about the project also spread the word, so that 13 youth ended up joining the project during the first month. These youth are going to form their own ACJU soccer team, which will participate in various tournaments in the all of the different municipal leagues. The idea behind the ACJU Deportivo project is to attract and involve youth in the project through sports, while at the same time providing them with a healthy recreational activity. Once their trust has been earned, the project will then begin to train youth leaders, who will then develop seed and other community projects. At this point ACJU Deportivo also has 2 coaches; non-staff who collaborate with the project on a volunteer basis, one of whom has connection to the University of Mexico’s Pumas soccer club. These 2 coaches volunteer their time every Saturday from 9:00 to 11:00 am to train the participants in soccer skills. Additionally, one of the coaches sought economic sponsorship and was able to get uniforms for the entire team donated in December. Finally, as a way of kicking off the new project, while at the same time celebrating the closing of 2012, ACJU Deportivo held an end of the year celebration for the participants and their families. The Facilitator personally went to all of the participants’ homes to speak with their parents and invite them to the celebration. The project hosted a potluck meal, where each family brought a dish while ACJU Deportivo provided the plates, cups, plasticware, napkins and drinks.
