On May 24 and 25, gruposVIDA held an emotional recovery facilitator training for pastors and other church leaders. The gruposVIDA project Coordinator has been doing a considerable amount of work over the last few months with several local churches. Much of this work has consisted of providing teaching and training on the importance of inner healing. These sessions were very well received by the churches, who kept on asking for even more workshops and sessions on the topic. Seeing that the need was so great, the coordinator proposed to the pastors and church leaders the need for offering emotional recovery groups in their own churches, to which they responded positively. This 2-day “Train the Trainer” conference was designed to teach participants how to facilitate their own groups and thus multiply the impact of the gruposVIDA project.
The conference was a resounding success. All together there were 31 participants in attendance, representing 5 different local churches. In addition to the gruposVIDA and Comunidades de Shalom staff, two guest presenters from Servant Partners International, a U.S. based ministry, were also invited to participate. Some of the conference topics included group structure and format, using art to help people express emotions and providing support through inner healing prayer. Additionally, each participant received a detailed Facilitator’s Manual that outlines, step by step, how to conduct a 6-week group series. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive. Several participants commented that they were excited to go back to their own churches and begin offering emotional recovery and inner healing groups to their own congregation members.
At ConeXión Mosaico, we employ a multifaceted strategy in order to address urban poverty from many different angles. However, we know that our organization alone cannot put an end to the enormous problem of urban poverty. That is why our overarching goal is to develop a reproducible change model that can be adapted, reproduced and multiplied by other community organizations, social programs and faith communities. By teaching and training others to reproduce our gruposVIDA model, a far greater number of people will receive emotional recovery support than we could ever hope to reach on our own. When you partner with gruposVIDA, you are a part of this exciting process! You are helping bring self-discovery and healing, not only to our own gruposVIDA participants, but to ever-widening circles of hurting people in the Mexico City urban slums as well.
